Founded in 2017 as a way to promote health and community in the Lake Champlain Islands, HICS is a fully registered non-profit with the mission to facilitate good Samaritan projects in Grand Isle County.
Every winter Great Ice! turns North Hero's frozen City Bay into a bustling festival for all ages and interests. The festival has steadily grown to include fireworks, bonfires, skating, lighted rinks and labyrinths, cookoffs, a business expo, community meals, snow building competitions, hockey games, and more. Proceeds from Great Ice benefit the Grand Isle/North Hero rescue squad, the North Hero Fire Department, and The North Hero Historical Society.
Weekend in the Islands was a weekend long business festival held in the Champlain Islands during 2022 and 2023 and featured specials and events to increase pre-Christmas sales for island establishments.
2017 and 2018, The Island Trail Running Series was a weekly low-cost trail race running from late June to mid August. The series held all eight races in its first year at Pelot's Bay Recreation Area in North Hero. In 2018, the series expanded to include two races through the newly conserved Tracy Woods property in South Hero. Proceeds from the race have been donated to Food for Thought and Camp Ta-Kum-Ta.
